![]() ![]() The group can be traced back to a Private Collection, Texas followed by the G Ray Hawkins Gallery, from whom the present owner acquired them in 2012. The soft, warm tones of the paper on which these prints were made, along with the image dates and apparent lack of fluorescence, suggest they were printed around the 1940s, although this assumption isn't certain. ![]() ![]() Without stamps or signatures, these prints were likely intended for reference or reproduction, and not for display as finished "fine art" prints. This collection of 25 proof prints by Ansel Adams offers a rare glimpse into the working process of America's most notable photographer. It is a variant of Adams' infamous photograph of the Grand Tetons and Snake River, and possibly the only example. The Gallery has been unable to locate another print of this image, nor find it reproduced at this time. Numbered "1.19" by an unknown hand in pencil verso. Archivally cornered onto 8-ply Museum Board backing that is hinged with an overmat. This silver gelatin contact print is untrimmed and unmounted. ![]()
